I'm sure this has been answered before but I cant find it so I'll ask it.
Is there an easy way to convert an existing FAT32 disk to NTFS? And will
anything happen to the FAT32 files or will they remain the same?
Thanks

To convert to NTFS, you use the CONVERT command. But first read
http://www.aumha.org/a/ntfscvt.htm because there's an issue
regarding cluster size that isn't obvious.

In theory, nothing happens to the files. But there are no
guarantees. Conversion is a big step, affecting everything on
your drive. When you take such a big step, no matter how
unlikely, it is always possible that something could go wrong.
For that reason, it's prudent to make sure you have a backup of
anything you can't afford to lose before beginning.

You can safely convert the partition to NTFS whenever desired,
without having to format the partition and reinstall everything. As
always when performing any serious changes, back up any important data
before proceeding, just in case. A little advance preparation is also
strongly recommended, so you can avoid any performance hits caused by
the default cluster size:

Thanks all... I'm a bit reluctant to try it... Nothing is broken now so I'll
just leave it FAT32...

I'll remain FAT32 for now..

You can use Partion Magic and go back and forth from NTFS-> FAT32->NTFS
again without issue. Nothing is perfect but I've used this software many
times without a problem.
