FAT32 or NTFS

Simple question: Do I format my HD partition to FAT32 or NTFS to run XPe?
The documentation is rather vague in this area.

Doesn't matter. NTFS may be preferable generally but FAT32 may have
advantages in rare cases (eg. Non-EWF CompactFlash Images).

You can even use FAT16. I have a followup question. Assuming I have no
special needs of any features of NTFS and that I want performance to be as
high as possible, does one of these FS have lower real-time requirements
than others?
