I recently did a clean install of XP on my Dell machine due to some strange
problems I was having. I reformatted the NTFS partition that was on my disk
and reinstalled XP. I left the approximately 50 meg FAT partition alone that
was there since I didn't know what it was.

I found the W32Welchia.worm virus on my machine right afterwards. Is it
possible that this virus was/is in this FAT partition?

My question really is, what is a FAT partition doing on a fairly new XP
Dell?

Dell Diagnostic Partition.

BTW - noticed the real-looking email address. If you have not already -
update your antivirus, download, install and configure anti-spam
applications and scan your system for adware/spyware/malware and remove it.
You will be receiving more spam soon - some pretending to be Microsoft
patches, some seemingly bounce messages from emails you never sent.

It contains the Dell diagnostics, which you would use togther with a Dell
technician.
