FAT and UDF file system partition

Hi all,

In a hard disk having two partition, I will format one partition with
FAT32 and other partition with UDF file system.

The windows doesn't show both partition. It will show only FAT32
partition.

What may be the reason for this??

UDF is for optical media

how do you thing you can UDF format your harddrive?

Do you mean NTFS, not UDF?
The windows doesn't show both partition. It will show only FAT32
partition.

Which version of windows?

By "show" partition, do you mean the drive letter or the
*contents* of the partition (which would of course be empty
until files are added)? The contents will depend on the
operating system understanding the filesystem. Win98 for
example, wouldn't understand NTFS.

we can format hard disk with UDF file system.

the tools like MKUDFFS in linux, can format the hard disk.

Hi

What I mean is:

If I format the hard disk(UDF file system) having single partition,
windows will recognize this disk.

But if a hard disk having both UDF and FAT32 partition, i will
recognize only one partition not both.

Well as far as I know UDF is for optical devices


BTW: Can Linux read the UDF partition on your harddrive?

Hey, guess what? I was curious so I looked on google and found that Windows
should be able to "see" a UDF
partition as a drive letter in windows explorer.

So the UDF partition may be there but simply not visible unless you have
windows installed.

If you are using an NT-based version of Windows (such as XP for example) you
may have to use disk management
to assign a letter. Since I've never even thought of UDF formatting a HD, I
sure don't have any answers for you
 
Did you ever answer the question about visibility in disk management? I
just showed a few backward students a usb flash drive. plugged it in and
said, watch, it will just show up.

well it didn't. a couple of the better students plugged in their usb flash
drives and they did show up, but, unlike every other computer I had stuck
mine in, to get _my_ flash drive to show up in explorer i had to go to disk
man. and assign it a letter.

ridiculous, i thought. but that;s the way it is in windows. so answer that
question: does it appear in dskman and did you assign it a drive letter?
