Fast User Switching will not logon a second user

When I click "Switch Users" I am taken to the welcome screen. I click on the
user that is not logged in and type the password and hit enter. (If I type an
incorrect password, the system tells me so) The screen flickers and comes
back to the welcome screen. I am able to log into the user that is currently
logged in.

I have read through the threads on Fast User Switching and have verified the
fixes mentioned in the replies.

FUS is enabled as well as TS.
Both services are set to automatic.
FUS and Welcome Screen are enabled in control panel.
I am running Norton Antivirus 10.0.2.2002.
Have checked the registry to ensure that AllowMultipleTSSessions is set to 1.

Any help would be appreciated.

What happens if you create another user then try and log in as that user?
What happens if you log off your original user?

I created another user and the problem persists. I even tried different
combinations with the original login, even by rebooting.

If I log off the original user, I can log into any user. When I then log
into another user and try to switch, I have the same problem.

BTW I'm running XP Pro SP2
 
I found my problem. I was looking in the Device manager and found the
keyboard and mouse driver for Terminal Server were disabled. I enabled them,
rebooted and the problem was solved.

I had the same problem with my system as well.
type in MSCONFIG in start\run
System configuration utility appears.
click the startup tab.
look for any item with startup item named as KDNLP.exe.
command Path:\windows\system32.
Location HKML\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run.

if you find the file by KDNLP.exe
if you find this file then i think you have to go to your basic and boot
the windowsxp using your installation CD and choose repair option.
then you get command prompt , go to the windows\system32 path ,
type in dir kdnlp.exe ,if you find the file delete the file.

I did not find a way to delete the file using windows as the file was not
visible
in the explore windows by all means.

After deleting the file i was able to user fasting switching was enabled,
user pasword protection, speed as improved.
