Fast user switch has always work. Now seemingly out of nowhere it won't. In order to switch users I have to log out completely. The fast user switch is there but when pressed it does absolutly nothing

I have tried going in a resetting it. It lets me but then when I go back it's checked off again. I am puzzled. Any suggestions

Control Panel->User Accounts->Change The Way Users Log On Or Off, check
Use Fast User Switching.

Note I get a pop-up saying "Fast User Switching cannot be used because
Offline Files is currently enabled" and a button to change the settings.
Maybe you've enabled Offline Files recently which has caused FUS to stop
working?

Parish Thanks for that :

Thanks I tried that. Under "my computer", "tools", "file options", there is supose to be a tab for "file options" I don't have that tab. (this turns to enable file offline thing on and off

I did try to click the Control Panel->User Accounts->Change The Way Users Log On Or Off, check
Use Fast User Switching. but what happens is that when I go back to see if it is still checked (once I notice that the fast switch/switch user) is not working.... somehow the fast user switching is unchecked again. I have no idea how.

I haven't been getting a nerror message either

The only other thing I can think of is that it has something to do with me removing all the spyware I found on the sysyem VIA Ad-Aware. It was right after I install and got rid of the spyware that it chose to do this.

The other intersting note is this: I have had to go into the control panel, maintance and performace, system, remote and disable the allow remote assistance becasue if I don't do that and I go into "adavanced" it checks on the "allow this computer to be controlled remotely". Even if I uncheck the box and disable it... If the box for allowing remote assistance is check it checks the other by itself

Did that makes sense

Hmmm, I have that tab so I don't know :-( Are you running XP Home? Mines
XP Pro so maybe that's it?

So the Fast User Switching checkbox is enabled? On mine it's greyed out
(disabled). Not sure where to go from here; hopefully one of the MVP
chappies will jumpp in.

Sorry I couldn't be more help :-(

No you were helpful. I appreciated it a lot. I found a fix though. I search this site more and found this link

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.ht

The person who originally posted it to someone else said "try number 34 in that list" I did.. IT WORKS! :

I think what happened was this

When I install ad-aware to get rid of the spyware on the system it deleted a few registry files too. When I patched it.. using the above link and problem solving # 34 on the list. (which re-install something by the looks of it a registry file was reinstalled :-\ ?) the Fast user switch now works

Maybe there is something on that page that will help you too??? Give it a try :

Stephanie :)

Ok now it has another issue LOL, it lets me go to the "main area" now by means of fast user switch, BUT if I try to click another users name .nope, flickers then nothing. LO

So it half works LOL at least it got me back to the main screen LOL. Where as before it wouldn't even do that

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm now what? I'll keep searching for the answer if I find it I'll post it here Parish :)

I've not got a problem :-) this machine only has one user, and on the
other machine (that SWMBO and the kids use) FUs works fine.

Thank goodness yours works :

Now if I can only figure out why this is doing this other funny thing now LOL
