A Japanese news report has revealed that China Japan and Korea are close to
signng a deal that will involve the co-development of and Open Source
Operating System which will replace Ms Windows. The reasons cited for this
are the high cost and security vunerabilities of Windows.
China's governing body has decreed that all government ministries must use
locally produced software such as WPS Office 2003 instead of Ms Office,
which is around half the price.
Microsoft is bleating unfair competition (they should already know a lot
about how that works) but Sun Microsystems sees this as an advantage for the
greater adoption of a Chinese localised Linux.
