The new catalyst 4.5 drivers solved the load problem
with my ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 128. I was having
consistent load failures starting at the Control level,
and with 3 levels after that, followed by the problem
clearing up through the remaining levels until Volcano
where it returned. Each problem load would finally
work after 2 - 3 automatic resets of the ATI card,
and sometimes that level would corrupt, sometimes
not. I've now been through the game again with the
new drivers, and all levels loaded fine, and even
looked much better with improved lighting effects.
I've even seen occassional birds but no surf
to speak of, and no blowing palm fronds like a
9600 will give. Still !!! My $64 card is performing
nicely, and the game looks great. The Cat 4.5 drivers
have given us low-end gamers "affordable" Far Cry,
and we will wait out the ATI 9800XT price to drop
to something reasonable ... say $120 which won't
totally tic off the wife. You single guys can have the
surf and blowing palm fronds for now.
