Fan?

I've got a system fan (separate from the CPU fan) that has always made a horrible sound,
but now I find that it is often stopped completely. As well, I notice a single beep coming
from the tower occasionally (a couple times a day). Is this related perhaps?

Yes, it can be related. Does it make the beep even when you are not using
the comp? Or does it just make the beep when you are using it?

My MOBO would beep when the temp got too hot inside the comp.

The beep could be coming from a thermal alarm on the
motherboard. What is the motherboard temperature when
it sounds? Fans are cheap and easy to replace; might
as well do it...won't hurt.

It seems I'm always sitting at it, but to be fair, if I'm in the same room that's where
I'll be sitting .. So /perhaps/ it happens otherwise. Actually for a while I was thinking
it was associated with a certain mouse movement, but I think it did it yesterday when I
was moving it the other direction. But doing this autonomic almost it's hard to be sure.

So where can I access the temp quickly enough to see the actual temp, and not the one I
see after I've smacked my fan back to life and then rebooted into the BIOS screen? I never
hear the beep twice in say....an hour. Damned hardware profile doesn't even mention the
fan.
Btw,I have SANDRA and Everest Pro.

Hold on.... I just found the sensor in Everest. It says that my CPU temp is running about
110 F, mobo at 100 and the HD in between those two. But there is no system fan mentioned
here4 whatsoever. Just a CPU Fan running at about 3000 rpm.

Is there a log or something I can look at immediately after I hear that beep and see what
it was about? Thanks, eh.

Replace a fan if it consistently "sticks" and is not operating as a result.
This is assuming you have enough amperage to supply all the fans in your
system. Both 12+ and 3.3 V.

So what were you waiting for? maybe for a colour smoke signal?
Some mobos with on-board sound even have voice error
messages. Try get one of these :)
(smoke signal is a good idea too - but can trigger fire alarms... )
