I've got an Athlon 2700+ and the fan is really loud.

I need a recommendation on a more silent fan that will work with a 2700+

Thanks!

I've got a Zalman 6000Cu on order at the moment. Supposedly its <20dB
for all XP+ processors. If you like I'll post an opinion once I receive it.

if youre using the stock heatsink with the 60mm fan then there is no quiet
fan that will work, you'll need to replace the heatsink with one that takes
an 80mm fan.

here's a good cheap solution. if it's still not quiet enough you could try a
panaflo L1A or nexus real silent fan on it but they may not provide enough
cooling. otherwise thermalright and zalman have some good heatsinks but
theyre more expensive.

Thanks. Expense isn't as important... I've already bought all of the
parts and the system's up and running. So $40 to $80 for a decent fan
is worth it at this point.

That's what I was thinking. I did that on an Athlon XP 1700+ with a
globalwin heat sink. I took a vantec stealth 80mm fan and bent the
global win fan retainer clips (it didn't use screws) outwards to clip
into the holes. Runs at the same temp, but at a whisper instead of like
a jet engine. For other heat sinks you'll need one of those plastic
adapters. My XP2000+ retail fan is nice and quiet, though.

those adapters dont work, because of the resistance they create you end up
needing a much faster fan just to get the same cooling. it's best to get a
heatsink that was designed to take an 80mm fan.

I'm using one on another PC with an XP 1800+, and it runs cooler with a
quiet vantec stealth fan (I bought a bunch of them, the vantec fans, as
the panaflos are harder to get over here).
