Fan hookup

Hi All, Quik question for ya. I just got my Antec case that came with 2
fans installed. I also got 2 additional fans I plan on using. The 2 that
came with the case only have the power plug that I assume plug into the
power supply connector. The 2 other fans have the same connector plus the
little one that plugs into the motherboard. Do I hook them both up or just
one or the other. Also, why do 2 have mobo connectors but the other 2
don't? Appreciate any help

You only need one connector or the other hooked up. Do NOT use both, as the
consequences could be . . . rather ummm . . . unfortunate. Fans only need
power. For this, they can hook up to any (drive type) power connector on
the power supply. Motherboards also have fan headers. The motherboard fan
headers provide power to run the fan, but also (usually) monitor the speed
of the fan. In fact, if you go into your BIOS, some motherboards can sound
an alarm or shut themselves down if a fan fails. It is quite common for a
motherboard to shut itself OFF if it doesn't sense that the CPU fan is
running, for example. As for the fans that do NOT have mobo connectors . .
.. it's actually better to not run case fans off the motherboard unless you
have some really pressing need to monitor the speed of these fans. -Dave

One or the other. Don't do both.

You can connect power with the molex connector, and connect the yellow
(RPM feedback) to the mobo, if desired. The fans will operate fine
without the RPM feedback connected.
