My PC runs XP Home Edition, boots fine, runs smoothly, but there is a
corrupted file I can't remove, and on running ChkDsk, it tells me that
AutoChk detects the hard drive as RAW format, which is impossible if I'm
running XP on the drive... Any ideas?

An important and relevant question to ask yourself at this point is, "how
are the backups"?

If you haven't got a good recent backup, now is the time to do it. Attach
the drive to another system, copy the files off. Don't forget mail and
contacts.
