For a reasonably safe test, you might download the VNC viewer from a
reputable source.

You needn't enter any personal information, and if you scroll down on the
download page you can get just the viewer app.
VNC is a remote control application, which, if present with the users
knowledge, is quite useful--but can be a security issue if the user is not
aware of its presence.
