Every once in awhile while I'm surfing the net, a Norton Antivirus box pops
up saying it's detected some trojan or another that it can't fix, but then
when I do a full system scan it comes up with 0 infected files. Has this
happened to anybody else?

Norton AntiVirus adds a BHO (browser helper object) to monitor any
downloads. You can use BHO Demon, Spybot's IE tweak tools, or another
utility to see what BHOs have been installed.

Sounds like you don't have the Internet security zone properly
configured to disable or prompt you when a site proffers a download
(whether a file or ActiveX control). Since you don't know when you are
doing downloads, change the Internet security zone to prompt you. You
might also consider using SpywareGuard to add further protection against
malware downloads, lock your home page, and prevent browser hijacking.
