This might sound like an odd request. I'm looking for a desktop program
that generates lots of fake email addresses. These would be used on
websites and such to feed the spam bots. Anyone know of such software?

I've heard about something called a "brain", which can "generate" fake email
addresses "automatically".

You might want to consider getting one.

I found this, but it is only for macs. Anyone know of anything like this
for windows? If not, is it possible to run this under a man os simulator?

As odd as it sounds, I actually wrote a program that does this. I
didn't think it was good enough so I never really put it out there.

Why would one need multiple fake addresses? So long as the domain (the
part after the @)is not valid all mail will bounce.

Do you still have this program? I would love to use it.

Lets just add to the problem of over loaded email services and bounced mail..

Most sites that ask for your e-mail do so for some reason.
You would also do well to read their privacy policy. If you
feel that there is no reason for them to be asking for your
mail then give them a yahoo or hotmail address, since these
services will filter out all mail except from people on your
contact list.

I think they know a lot about those programs in news.admin.net-abuse.email,
including hints how to use them most effectively.

There was a program/script that was created to do that. It was (is ?)
called wpoison (Web Poisoning Software). It used to be at ;

http://www.e-scrub.com/wpoison/

From another page ;

"a CGI program that generates false email addresses to poison the
spammers' databases. You add a link to this CGI program on your page
and any visiting address harvester that follows the link will find a
dynamically-created page loaded with false addresses and links back to
the same CGI program"

It doesn't appear to be there any more. It may be elsewhere. You might
consider a web search and/or searching in an anti spam newsgroup. Or
perhaps ;

http://members.tripod.com/~johnmlee/wpoison.html

might be sufficient ?

Regards, John.

That's not a good idea. It messes with real spiders, such as Google,
archiving bogus info.

I tried shareware used by spammers awhile back. These were quality
programs that can create a file with every permutation, to a user set
length and email each. It took minutes to get every permutation up to
7 characters at hotmail.

In other words, harvesting is not as prevalent as it once was. Open a
new account at a large mail server, like Hotmail or Yahoo, and watch
your account fill with spam like magic, even with their spam filters
in place.
