When I try to run "disk defragmentation" by the time some
90 % of the "analysis phse" has been executed a message
pops up telling me that a file c:backup\recovery pops up
and the process is stopped.
How to avoid this?

Frits,

I believe that the error message you are seeing is that there is a problem
with such and such file. From the brief fragment of error message that you
reported, it sounds like it is one of the System Restore files.

I would first suggest that you run a CHKDSK /R (will require a reboot to
perform) and then retry. If you still get this message, then I'd suggest
that you disable System Restore (WARNING - you will loose all of your
existing restore points when you disable) and then re-enable and retry the
defrag.
