Failure of transfer of multiple accounts to Windows Mail

I recently purchased a laptop with Vista. I transfered my two email accounts
from my old computer (Windows XP Home). My first email account was with
alltel.net, my second account is with windstream.net - because of Alltel's
name change.

I sent/received email using both accounts on my old computer. With Vista
Windows Mail I can only do so with my alltel.net account. I copied all server
information exactly with regards to settings, double checked.

When I send from my alltel.net account to my windstream.net account I get a
message: 'pop.winstream.net', Protocol: POP3, server Response:'-ERR invalid
suername or password.', Port 110, Seervice (SSL): No, server error:
0x800CCC90, Error Number 0x800CCC92.

When I send from windtream.net accountto alltel.net account I get the same
error message except ending with Error Number 0x800CCC91. However, the
message still goes through.

Any ideas on how I can solve this problem???

The error message below is not complete or an exact copy
as it contains several obvious typos. Please right-click on the error
message and select copy, then paste it into a reply here.

That said, Windows Mail is very sensitive to interference from
antivirus programs. Read http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3
If you have McAfee or Norton antivirus, uninstall it. Reboot and try
Windows Mail again. Once you get your email working properly,
download and install a less troublesome antivirus program such as the
free Avast. Whichever antivirus program you keep, be sure to
disable its email scanning option.

Besides the typos Gary mentioned, port 110 is for the receiving (POP3)
server. The sending (SMTP) server does not use port 110. Set the account
to agree with Winstream's requirements.

Gary VanderMolen - per your request, I copied/pasted, only replaced
account's name with "account name".
Account: 'account name', Server: 'mail.alltel.net', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '-ERR invalid user name or password.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

SMTP server was and is set to port 25. Please see above reply to Gary
VanderMolen, copied and pasted error message as he requested.

I don't see any obvious clues in the error message, aside from the fact
that the server thinks your credentials are wrong.
Did you take the antivirus advice I gave previously? It is possible
that your antivirus has corrupted the email account, so after
uninstalling your antivirus program you should create a new email account
with the same settings as the old account, then delete the old account.

Are you able to access your provider's web mail using the old Alltel.net
login? The reason I ask, here

http://windstream.custhelp.com/cgi-...j0mcF9jdj0xLjQ3JnBfcGFnZT0x&p_li=&p_topview=1
or http://tinyurl.com/2s79kq
it says "Former Alltel customers who have changed their e-mail address
to @windstream.net should log in with the new Windstream e-mail address
and password." It almost implies that once you begin using your
@windstream.net email address, the alltel.net email address will go away.

I did turn off virus scann of outgoing and incoming email, deleted and
reinstalled email accounts. I will not be able to get to uninstalling the
antivirus program for a couple of days (Norton, installed on this newly
purchased laptop.) My thought is to change to Kaspersky. Yes, I can still
send/receive using Windows Mail and the old Alltel address and login as well
as access my provider's web with the old Alltel address and login.

Let us know what the result is after uninstalling Norton.

The anti-virus uninstall/reinstall with the disable of in/out email check by
Norton anti-virus (as you suggested) appears to have resolved the problem.
Thank you very much for your help.

Now that you have seen first hand evidence of the corruptive nature
of Norton antivirus, I would think you'd be adverse to reinstalling it.

Reinstalled to correct the problem for the moment. I am now in the process of
obtaining Kaspersky anti-virus. Thanks again.
