Hello, I have an HP Pavilion 520c that runs on Windows XP. It has a CD-RW
drive and a DVD drive. Recently, I have experienced a problem with the DVD
drive. When I insert a random DVD, the light on the DVD drive flashes with a
green light for about 15 seconds, which is more than normal...at the same
time, the arrow shows a disc icon next to it and that happens like 2 times
during the 15 second period...at other times, when I go to My Computer, the
DVD drive icon disappears and it is only when I reboot that it
reappears...when all this happens, the DVD is not read.

I have checked all of my DVDs and they are in perfect condition. If I am
fortunate enough, it will read one unexpectedly and I am able to play it
fine. The status of the device says that it is working properly, so I do not
know what the problem is.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

What DVDs are u trying to play? If they are movies, you might be having
region issues.

Check which Region is the DVD drive set to -> device manager, properties. If
the region is different, find out which region you dall under. Also, if this
drive was a replacement, try *resetting* the same region code.

Be very very careful with this, you can change the region only 5 times, this
is written into the firmware, so it's pretty much permenanent..

The DVDs I'm trying to play are commercial ones. I'm sure it's not the region
because it's set at 1. This drive was not a replacement.
