New broadband service with cable modem. No equipment
between modem and Windows machines.
A laptop running XP 5.1 Pro has no problem accessing the
internet when connected to the modem. It has an
integrated LAN adaptor.
A desktop running XP Home (upgraded from ME) with a brand
new Linksys adapter does not get a DHCP address or DNS
server when the net cable is switched to it. Activity
light on the adapter shows activity on the connection;
however, the PC has no packet traffic above the hardware
layer. The network connection appears to be configured
the same as the laptop's. Using netsh to reset the stack
has no effect.
Any help?
Thanks,
Mark
