Failing Disk Drive Replacement

I have a c drive that I know is failing. I bought a new drive and now I need
to copy all of my old dricve, including my system files, over to the new
drive. How do I do this? When I do a copy, it does not pick up all of the
files.

The new drive may have come with a system copying utitility

otherwise you may want to use Acronis or a similar utility

You need to clone the old drive onto the new drive and XP's copy
routines won't do the trick as it only copies files. What you need is an
exact duplicate hence the term 'clone'.

The manufacturer of the new hard drive should have a utility to do
exactly what you want. If you didn't get a CD ROM that includes the
cloning utility along with the purchase of the new drive then visit the
drive manufacturer's web site and download what you need.

Also note that if you are running XP or W2K, after you have cloned the
old drive to the new be sure and disconnect the old drive before trying
to boot the new drive. XP writes drive information to the registry when
a new install is first booted -or- when there is any change in drives
installed in the computer. Considering that the new drive *is* the boot
drive the later could cause undesirable results for you.

If the hard drive has read problems in some areas of the hard drive that
contain data that you want, it may be too late for common clone.
