An XP reload using 'repair' was terminated prematurely.
Upon restart the system fails due boot sector on drive
failure. There is important data which did not backup
properly that I need to get from the drive. Any advice
before I try to rebuild MBS ... or are there tools
available to allow me to get the data off first? Any
help is much appreciated.

Do you have a extra Hard Disc with OS on it or could be
put on it. I have changed out my C: with different OS
made it master and changed what is like Your C: now make
it slave D: drive, then from C: you take off files from
D: as it doesn't require any Operating files at all.

Drive is not recognizable. MBR is gone ... I attempted
an FIXMBR from Rconcole ... but the command fails stating
an MBR cannot be writen.

Big problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Aye. What I'd do here is a "dumb" image from the sick HD onto a new
and working HD that is same or larger in capacity.

Then work on data recovery on the healthy drive - i.e. fight one of
the two battles (sick HD, corrupted contents) at a time.

Trouble is, pulling the whole HD takes time, and a sick HD may not
live long enough to complete the process. If you have recovery sware
that will view the HD "as if" a certain MBR was in effect, then you
can cherry-pick your crucials first.

If you know of sware that can do that, do tell me!
