In reviewing security updates I see that several of them are marked as
"failed." Yet, when I go to Updates, I get the message that there are no
high security updates to be had.

What do I do now, since the "failed" updates no longer show up as available?

Further info: all the "failed" installations (5 of them) refer to
KB913446. I checked via Add/Remove Programs and this update is shown to
be installed. I guess the question now is why it does not show up in the
Review of Updates on the Update site.

There was a problem with that update when it was first released
last Tuesday. If you had automatic updates enabled or tried to
obtain that update through the Windows Update site it would
show up as a failed installation. That's what happened to me so
I ended up with 2 failed entries in my update history. What I
did was go to this site and obtain the update directly:

Vulnerability in TCP/IP Could Allow Denial of Service (913446)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS06-007.mspx

On my system it's listed under Windows XP - Software Updates in
Add/Remove programs. I think because I bypassed the usual route
to obtain updates it will not show up under my update history
on the Windows Update site.

If you're concerned that you might be missing some updates, you
might want to download, install and run Microsoft Baseline
Security Advisor 2.0 which is available here:

Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/tools/mbsahome.mspx

FYI, the problem with that update was corrected late Tuesday.
If you're curious as to what people were experiencing go to
this site and search for messages about KB913446.

Thanks for the feedback. Since automatic update did not download that
file, I got it by going directly to MS. So, as you say, that's the
likely reason it shows up in Add/Remove Programs but not in the history
review on the update site.
