Hi, can somebody help me identify this problem? I set up a machine of
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. It did not install AD at first
and was a member in Workgroup. Other machines can access it without
any problem. Then I installed AD on that machine and made it PDC in
its domain. But strange things occurred I found it can access other
machines in the Workgroup but from those machines I could not access
this server since then. I tried ping it but got request timed out.
What's the problem here? I did not enable firewall in that machine.

In the first instance you have to determine if this is a
TCP/IP problem or a name resolution problem. Try
pinging by IP address rather than by name. Turn on
your network status indicator in the System Tray and
watch the send/receive byte counters while you ping -
they will tell you plenty.

I tried pinging IP address but still not work. The network status
indicator shows there are packets both sent and received. I also use
network monitor to capture the packets and it did show the ICMP
packets I ping from another machine. The behavior is really like a
firewall blocking all inbound connection. What should I do next?
