I am getting a wierd error. In Windows Explorer or My Computer when I
right click on files or folders I get an Information message pop up
that says "Failed to load product info file" and then it crashes out
of the Explorer or My Computer. And it also happens when I select
File from the top bar in Windows Explorer but it doesn't happen when I
select View or other columns to the right. So it isn't a problem
with the right click of the mouse, I think.

I am using XP Pro and this problem just crept in to my machine,
possibly at the time that I loaded a floppy with some Word docs. I am
using Norton Antivirus and had it running when the floppy was
inserted. I got no warning messages. I have also done a scan of the
hard disk with Norton updated with the latest signatures and haven't
found any viruses.

I also got one "LSA Shell (export version) encountered a
problem" message too, but can'tt remember what triggered that message.
But that one message only popped up once and I haven't seen it again,
while the Failed to load message is consistent.

I have tried reinstalling XP over the top and doing all updates but
that hasn't helped.

I've looked in google and don't see anybody else with this "Failed to
load product info file" problem.

I am also getting this error message, sometimes when trying to
uninstall certain programs from the Add/Remove Control Panel, and when
right clicking in other various areas, such as the start menu. Any
help would be greatly appreciated!

OK, I figured it out. Those "certain programs" that I couldn't
uninstall were actually just one, J. River Media Center 9.1. I had
tried to uninstall this before and it crashed halfway through, so it
was still in the list. I solved both these problems by re-installing
Media Center, then uninstalling it, but just selecting the checkbox to
remove registry entries. That fixed the "Failed to load product info
file" problem, and when I deleted the J. River folder from the Program
files folder, I got rid of that stupid program as well. I hope this
helps anyone who has similar problems!

WOW.

Blake, you da man. I am literally taking a big deep sigh of relief.

Last week a friend at work recommended J. River Media Center so I
loaded. - As if I needed another player! I already have Winamp,
WMP9, Realplayer, MusicMatch, Creative Playcenter, and probably some I
even forget. I would have never thought of that media program causing
that type of error.

I reloaded it and uninstalled it and the problem IS GONE.

I tried a lot stuff yesterday to fix the problem and was getting to
the point where I figured I was going to have to c:format so I can't
thank you enough for your response to my message. Amazingly nothing
has been written about this, or nothing that shows up doing a google
web or groups search.

Thank you very very much.
