Hello,

I have aquestion. I have a windows 2000 server with Exchange. I try to
reboot, but the system just sits at "Windows is Shutting Down" and never
actually reboots. Is there anyway I can make the system reboot without
having to press the reset button and figure out what is keeping it from
rebooting?

Thanks,

Marcial

Hello,
There are a couple of ways you can try to hunt down the problem. One is doing a remote debug (Q151981 - How to Set Up a Remote Debug Session Using a Null Modem Cable) of the system with another machine to see what services & drivers are shutting down at the time of the command and what is not. Another one, that may be easier, would be to try and remember what you did before seeing this problem. Doing this you may remember the last installed program, and then you can stop that service before trying to do a restart. Usually it is a program that is missed configured or a service trying to run a command to another machine or application that is not there anymore. A shotgun approach would be to stop all third party service and in your case, you may want to try and stop exchange first to see how long that may take, before rebooting your server.

I also went to Microsoft support website to see if any articles may match or help your situation better –

I found a couple errors in my event viewer. Anyone have any idea how to fix
them:

Event ID: 1030
Windows cannot query for the list of Group Policy objects. Check the event
log for possible messages previously logged by the policy engine that
describes the reason for this.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Event ID: 1058

Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO
CN={31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=global-it
ech,DC=com. The file must be present at the location
<\\global-itech.com\sysvol\global-itech.com\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945
F-00C04FB984F9}\gpt.ini>. (Configuration information could not be read from
the domain controller, either because the machine is unavailable, or access
has been denied. ). Group Policy processing aborted.

Event ID: 4015

The DNS server has encountered a critical error from the Active Directory.
Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly. The extended error
debug information (which may be empty) is "". The event data contains the
error.

Anyone know of any fixes?

Thanks,

Marcial
