Failed Installation

Jay

I've had problems with the installation of two different
digital cameras that are both Windows XP compatible.
When I plug one into the USB port no installation window
pops up. Then, when I look in the Device Manager it says
that the camera drivers weren't properly installed. When
I try updating the drivers, I get a message that the
device drivers are unsigned for Windows XP (I assume
Windows is trying to install drivers for older operating
systems, because XP is supposed to already have the right
drivers.) And while the camera is plugged into the USB
port the power light is on, but it is non-functional.
This has happened with two different makes of camera.
Anybody have any ideas?

Hi Jay -

The error message you get regarding Unsigned Drivers is the result of the
camera manufacturer not submitting their drivers to Microsoft for their
blessings (Windows Hardware Quality Labs or WHQL). This service costs the
manufacturer money, so many companies don't bother.

Reinstall the driver and click the Install Anyway button. If this button
isn't available you'll have to set Control Panel | System | Hardware |
Driver Signing to "Warn..." rather than "Block...".
