I wonder whether someone here can help me recover the use of my
HP LaserJet CP1515n printer which will not start up correctly?
On switch-on, the initial start cycle begins as ususal, with
'Hewlwtt-Packard' and chevrons appearing one by one in the
printer display. Eventually 'Ready' appears but followed
immediately by '49 error Turn off then on'. That action has no
effect. The cycle then repeats indefinitely.
Someone on another newsgroup who uses this printer tells me that
setting everything to 'Factory defaults' and re-configuring may
break this impasse. The manual says (pp 44 - 49) to set
defaults: 1) press the OK button to open the menus; 2) select
Service menu; 3) select Restore defaults. I cannot get any
action at all from the OK (or any other) button. Moreover the
ethernet and USB connections are both broken so, having
uninstalled the driver software, I cannot re-install past the
point where one chooses the type of connection, inserts the
printer net address, and lets the printer be found.
Is the printer really broken or is there something simple I can
do to put it right? If not I will ask for a replacement as it is
less than 6 months old.
