A week or so ago I became unable to download my e-mail using Windows
Explorer 5 which was on my computer when I purchased it. I gave an
error message but no number. I contacted Cynergy (IPS) and they told
me to download Windows Explorer again. I could only download Explorer
7, which I did. I still get an error message that it cannot download
my e-mail into Windows Explorer, but no error number. Cynergy tech
says it is a system error in Microsoft Windows Explorer. I installed a
new software program TC2007 at about the same time, but don't know if
this had any effect. Can anyone help? Walter Hassel

There's no such thing as "Windows" explorer 5. If you are using XP then it
would have been either "Internet" explorer SIX or Windows Explorer. Could
you tell us EXACTLY (including what Operating System you are using) which
Web browser you are using?

One would not usually use either windows explorer (file manager) nor
internet explorer (web browser) to "download" email. Instead, one would use
a mail client like Outlook Express, which comes with XP. (Since you posting
in an XP forum, I assume that you are running XP. If not, please post in
the appropriate forum, such as 98, ME, etc.)

However, many email systems permit a remote login, in which case you could
use internet explorer as aa web browser to reach their login site. That
would allow you to view email, copy text to a program on your PC, such as
WORD or NOTEPAD, and probably even send mail.

To clarify, Internet Explorer verison 7 is a newly relased web browser tha
runs under XP. For win98 and ME, try Internet Explorer version 6, which is
still available at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/downloads/default.mspx Note that
IE6 also works well under XP.

Other thoughts: If you can not connect to your ISP's mail website, that
could be due security settings in your web browser or due to a firewall
issue (less likely). If you get to the mail website, but can not do things
that involve pop-up screens, that again could be the security settings, or
you might have a pop-up blocker that needs to be trained to permit some of
them. Pop-up blockers sometimes come as part of a security package, such as
by Symantec or McAfee.

Is your connection a phone-line and low-speed modem or something high-speed
like cable or DSL? If low speed, then time-outs could become a problem.
Or, large attachments could be a problem.

As a test of your PC and connection vs their website, try getting mail using
someone else's PC, that is known to have a reliable internet connection.

I am using Internet Explorer Version 7 (new, just downloaded two days
ago). I was using Internet Explorer before, but the poblem came up
before I downloaded the new version. I am using XP home. The server
is Cynergy, Evansville On Line. Windows defender is in the lower bar
and is active, but I tried turning it off and it made on difference. I
am using AVE Free as an anti-viral program, but I tried turning it off
and it made no difference. Walter Hassel

Walter do yourself a favour and do a System Restore to an Earlier date, when
things were working and sound.
Or tell us what E-mail is you are using (i.e. Yahoo, hotmail, Cynergy
..etc...) are you using Outlook Express or outlook 2003 for your email set up.
HTH.
PLease let us know.

nass
