Today i try using group policy to deploy SP4 on 1 of my
W2K Pro workstations. The installation starts
automatically after the workstation was booted up.
At the beginning, i can see the hard disk was busy and it
seems the installation was running. however, some time
later the machine stops working and remains in the
installation screen. it's not totally hanged, at least the
mouse pointer can still move. it idles for about 15
minutes and therefore i reboot the PC. unfortunately i
found that it can't enter windows. it reboots everytime it
wants to boot into windows. the conclusion is that the PC
has crashed due to failure of deploying SP4.

This is the situation and i would like to ask if i have
done anything wrong which cause the failure. what should i
do so that i can deploy SP4 on multiple workstations
successfully?

thx a lot~

If your install is starting upon boot up, then you have the policy
configured correctly. Most likely you just need to wait longer. It can
take 20 minutes to 1/2 hour +, depending on your computer speed, to install
a service pack via group policy. It does appear that the computer has hung,
but it probably has not. Just let it finish. As for the computer that you
powered down, and now will not boot, you will have to re-install windows on
it. Shutting it off during a service pack install can pretty much kill the
OS.
