Factory Restore of Compaq Presario 1800 Notebook PC, (ME)

I'm currently trying to Clean up my friends Presario 1800.

I'm trying to figure out, is there a way for me to Fromat and reinstall
windows, or do a system resotre back to factory, without having the HP
Recovery disk? The computer was made after 03', and the website did
mention that Certin DESKTOPS were able to burn their own recovery
disks, is this true for laptops as well?

The computer runs on Windows ME, and I do not have any Windows disks to
install from either.

Likely, the notebook has a sub-folder in the Windows\ tree called
Options and a sub called Cabs. This is where the source/installer
modules for ME are stored. If the cabs are found there you could burn
to CD-R and use to re-install. You would have to use a Boot floppy or
CD-R, as the makeshift ME disk wouldn't be bootable. Of course doing
it this way, you'd loose any applications that were supplied with the
computer\
- unless you have a Applications CD.

Brad:

I had to reinstall a new HD on a Compaq that crashed and I found the "live
chat" thru the HP website for Compaq products to be extremely helpful. After
you furnish them with the serial number, they can pretty much tell you what
you need, or what you should do.

Did you run it by them??

A laptop made after 2003 that runs Windows ME?

That does not compute!
