When I boot using f8 I now cannot move the cursor to select safe mode.
It's an Award bios on ECS K1n sli motherboard.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Try another keyboard, or if a USB keyboard try connecting the keyboard to a
rear USB port if it is connected in the front.

If you go into the BIOS screens, does the keyboard work there ?
Is the keyboard USB or PS/2 ? What options are you using for
USB in the BIOS screen ?

When you're in the Safe Mode screen, I presume little of the
OS is loaded, so I don't see how it would particularly be
an OS issue, but anything is possible.

When I have hardware problems, I reach for my Knoppix or Ubuntu
Linux LiveCD, as those are bootable CD OSes, and can be used to
test hardware responses. That is how I'd figure out whether
all the hardware was OK. And that would help pinpoint whether
to expect a hardware or a software problem in the other
OS.

Sorry I should have said that the keyboard (Microsoft Natural) is PS2 and it
works just fine when in the bios. When in the F8 menu I need to reseat the
PS2 before the arrows activate.

I don't know if this is a hardware or software problem but I will try to get
another keyboard to test.
