My cable ISP has just offered for free an F-Secure security suite
package for up to three PCs. AV and firewall. Does anyone have any
experience with this software?

Take it! It is one of the best Av-products in the world. And the
firewall-part is also good and easy to manage.

Search some revives with google so you will find it appreciated it
really is.

Thei support and updates are also top quality, they even have a weblog
which they write very often what is happening in the virus world
around http://www.f-secure.com/weblog/

Among the best there is, I run it.

It appears that the package is 2003. I don't see any option for E-mail
scanning. The 2004 version appears to have configurable E-mail
scanning. Any comments?

Does anyone know how F-Secure scans E-mail?

I run NAV on my main E-mail box. The only reason I still use
NAV is because of their proxy E-mail scanner.

Yes I practice safe Hex but NAV's E-mail protection has
saved me a lot of hassles in the past during mass mailing
malware attacks by cleaning infected messages before they
get D/L or not letting them D/L.

I'm looking for another program that does the same thing or
better. I don't want to have to clean out a bunch of junk
from my In Box the next mass attack.

BTW, I use Mail Washer Pro which does a pretty good job. It
let's me preview my messages before D/L.

NOD32 and Avast both scan incoming POP E-mail. Avast also scans
outgoing SMTP E-mail. The messages are left in the in box, but with
any infected attachments or message body deleted.

Yes... F-Secure's email scanner works at the protocol level and scans
e-mail messages as they are downloaded. See
<http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&safe=off
&selm=c77knj%24jv1%241%40proxy.interware.hu>
additional details.

Interesting link, thanks.

Unfortunately, I use AT&T Anywhere for my primary E-mail. It
uses 995 for POP3 and 465 for STMP so F-Secure may not meet
my requirements.
