Will DOS based A/V programs (such as F Prot) work with Windows XP?

Why are you asking this? Isn't 'xp' anti-DOS as other gates' programs?
Heeeheehee. Actually he does NOT get away from DOS...he hides it
deeeeeeeeeeeeeeep within the command.com . It just strikes me as funny
that an XP user would 'lower' themself to 'dos'. ....
Just kidding! XP needs all the help it can get, but I don't know
the answer to your question. Why not try it and when you get a result,
post back here with the results.

It will not work on NTFS. FAT32 should be okay, I believe.

Yeah, that was why I was asking the question----because XP is "sorta DOS,
but sorta not, too".

I'll check it and see.

Hi;
Resumé of what was extracted straight from the official f-Prot site:
"We do not recommend that f-Prot for Dos be used w. 2000 and XP...
....as too many files will slip by unscanned".

That is my experience too, when doing a full scan of the computer

Not sure about the NTFS option, but I can confirm that with WinXP on a
FAT32 partition, F-Prot works OK.

But you're just one user. Others find problems even with FAT 32. In
general, it's best to advise people to just forget about using F-Prot
DOS on XP. You're far better off with the Windows version which is
designed to run on the NT based OS which F-Prot DOS isn't.

You might be right Art. You sure as hell know more about this stuff
than I do. Although I only use F-Prot as a backup AV, I trust it, and
I like the fact that it runs outside of Windows. So I'll just keep on
using it as my backup.
Thanks for your caution, just the same.
