I bought my first laptop and am wondering how to use shortcuts with the F
keys. When I try to use the F keys, they only produce the pictured command on
the keys. For example, when I press F3 when using Word, I get the battery
status on my laptop. please help

Somewhere there's a key that turns off those special F-key functions
in the laptop. Nothing to do with Word; ask your computer manufacturer
or the store where you bought it.

Undoubtedly you will have a key that toggles the functions of the F keys -
perhaps called F-Lock. Check the manufacturer's documentation.

On my laptop, a HP, I have key next to the control (CTRL) with a box
highlighted "FN" which when pressed activates the function.

Hope that helps, will be scimilar on your laptop am sure.
