Extremely slow filetransfer using explorer over the LAN

Hi there!

I have a Windows 2000 DC which I have problems relating to the network
performance. Transferring files to/from the DC, I get around 9-10% utilization
of 100 mbps, when I use explorer. Using FTP transfer instead, I usually end up
with 95-99%.

Where do I start tracking this very annoying problem down with?

You probably won't find a "cure" for the problem. File copying in Explorer
is almost always significantly slower than any other copy method because of
the overhead involved. Use a utility like Robocopy if pure copying speed is
important.

Yes, but we are talking huge differences, 10% (SMB) vs. 95-99% (FTP).
