i recently sold my laptop. i was using outlook xp and
before i sold the laptop, i saved my .pst file thinking i
would be able to import my messages to outlook express or
some other email client. i gave my office software to the
person who bought the laptop (don't know why, now that i
think about it). anyway - i am now using outlook express
and am not going to buy a new copy of office. am i
completely out of luck? will i never be able to access
the months of messages in that .pst? i feel like my
messages are being held hostage. suggestions? thanks.

In order to import PST files into Outlook Express, you need to have Outlook
on the computer as well. You could order the preview version of Microsoft
Office 2003, install that, then import your messages to Outlook Express.
Then uninstall the preview version. All you'd have to do would be pay for
shipping.
