Extracting information from a CAD . dwg File type

i wish to some how extract information pertaining to a .dwg file type and place it in an access table. That is I have a drawing for a refinery facility with a drawing number and a revision number stored somewhere in the file. The information displays when the file is opened in a viewer. I need to open a directory and loop through all .DWGs and extract these fields from the drawing if possible. I haven't the foggiest idea where to begin. If anyone has experience with this problem I would appreciate any input.
 
You should start with the purveyors of the CAD software or in a newsgroup
devoted to it in order to discover how to get the data elements you want.
