I have a home movie I received from an email chain that has a couple of
tidbits I would like to extract for use in a simple sound-only format... how
do I extract the audio from a short video clip? Any ideas?

Thanks,
QNman

Hello there,

Import the file to Movie Maker and then drag and drop onto the lower
audio track. Then click on FILE > SAVE MOVIE and follow the dialog as if you
were going to save a movie. The resulting will will have a WMA extension and
can be played in media player.

Yeah, but won't it be HUGE? I am also hoping to eliminate the size of the
file.

Thanks,

Hello there,

I have no idea. How big is the video + audio file ?

Why not just try it and see?

Play the video in Windows Media Player or whatever player you use....

As it's playing, try capturing the segment you want as a narration file....
if you have a Stereo Mix (or equivalent) option in the narration capture
wizard of MM2, it'll copy the audio as a new WMA file.

I'm sorry... I don't know what you're telling me. Could you please clarify?
You could email me at qnman at hotmail dotcom... Or just reply.

Thanks,

It's a 12.8M WMV file... it made a 5.5M file in WMA (set to 150 bps). This
isn't completely objectionable, but I would still prefer extracting the part
I don't need to free up precious memory... I am still using an older MP3/WMA
player (RCA) with 64M of memory. I know, upgrade, but don't want to spend
the cash right now.

Any other thoughts?

Hello there,

Great, now we are getting some where, I re-read your first message.

There is no money involved :) Go to my web site and look in GREAT LINKS > AUDIO

The program Audacity is a wonder to behold....you will be able to edit, chop
up, improve on etc your audio file and get what you really want...the degree of
control provided by the program is truly excellent.....I can just about
guarantee you will spend ages doing "What If's" with it :)

Hello there,

Oh dear.
Actually, in looking closer, this is still a WMV file... what did I do
wrong?
Hmmmm, well maybe I told you wrong...lets have another go.
Start a new project, Drag the previously imported WMF file down to the lower
audio track and then click on FILE > SAVE MOVIE
The resulting file should have a WMA extension.

Hello Again,

I should have also said that you can play the file directly in Movie Maker and
edit it on the audio track so that the output'd file is just the bit you
want......cut the file and right click and delete the unwanted portion.

Also, during the SAVE MOVIE operation the only file types you will be offered
are AUDIO types, CD, FM etc etc....if you are not offered those options you
have gone wrong.
