i am trying to use the powercfg.exe to restore some missing power schemes on
my power options applet. ....the schemes may also be missing from my registry
too. when i type the neccessary command line order. i get an error message.
then when i try to search for the program, even after unhiding system and
hidden files, the search returns no results. im afraid i may have
accidentally removed or deleted the program, and even its associated
runtimes, files, etc.

so i am wondering, how do i extract the neccessary files. im not sure where
to look for them on the original setup cdrom. is it possible to extract them,
or download them from somewhere?

thank you

This happens when you save new power schemes. You can revert to the default
power schemes by going to the following registry keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\PowerCfg
and
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\PowerCfg

and deleting all schemes except the first six. Restart.

Note: You can change values in power schemes and click Apply or OK. No need
to save them with unique names.

If you do want to create/save - limit yourself to 2 schemes. Don't exceed
that number or you'll lose the power schemes again.

sharon,

well, thanks for the registry advice, but you didnt really answer all my
questions. i know its possible to fix windows problems in the registry
editor, but in doing my online research for this issue, one thing i came
across was using Powercfg.exe.

i went to a command prompt, like the intstruction said, and i got error
messages, that meant to me that i may not have the program on my system. so i
did an F3 file search, and even with showing hidden and system files, my
search brought up nothing. i was afraid i may have deleted or uninstalled
something that removed the program, so i tried using the 'expand file' button
on the first page of Msconfig.exe, and that did nothing. -i didnt know where
to look on my xp setup cdrom.

SO, my unanswered questions is, how do i replace the missing powercfg.exe
program on my computer?

thank you
