extra spaces between words

When I print a letter previously created in either MS
Word or WordPerfect there is extra spaces inserted
between the first letter of a word in random lines. There
may be several words in that particular line that will
get an extra space inserted after the first letter of the
word when printing. It does not show up on the screen as
an extra space - just in printing. So I have to go back
to the document and adjust the margin to correct this
problem. I was using Windows 98 and my new computer is
Windows XP. Why and how do I correct this problem? There
must be a simplier way than having to print it and then
go back and adjust the margins.
 
Make sure that you are using a current, xp-compatible driver for your model
of printer. Go to the website for your printer's manufacturer, and download
it there.
