I have Windows XP home edition sp 1. When I boot up I get
a screen that shows two boot files and asks which one I
want to boot from. One is the normal windows XP file the
other is an extra file that was accidentally started
after I first installed XP. My question is how do I
remove the second one?
Also I have a reference to a "Remindme" file in the
registry. I need to remove that reference. When I try to
run regedit.exe the screen displays for a second then
disappears. How do I get it to stay so that I can remove
that reference?
Thank you.

If regedit runs for a moment and disappears, this is a common symptom of a
virus ifection (like Klez). If you try running taskman.exe and you get the
same result, it's extremely likely that your system is infected. You *may*
be able to rename regedit.exe to regedit.com and run it that way, but you
should also scan your system with an up-to-date virus scanner. You can find
an online scanner at
