Hi...

Finally going to break down an get a DVD writer. However, after
buying a low end external HDD and being please with its performance,
I'm wondering if an external DVD writer is a good idea.

First, I've got USB2 and Firewire. Is the speed of those ports an
issue? I've seen externals running at 8x DVD speeds... can those
ports keep up?

I assume I'd get better performance out of an internal drive? Is it
significant? I prefer the portability, but not if I'm going to take a
serious performance hit.

Anything else I should consider?

Thanks much

Chris

USB2 and Firewire have plenty of bandwidth for a DVD. The only downsides
I can see are that external writers are a lot more expensive and you
need an external power supply for them.
