Anyone knows of a website for external HD recommendations. I'm looking for
something like a Freecom FHD-2 hard drive that slips in a pocket, has usb
power and 40-80G capacity with reasonable performance. I mainly want one for
backup and file transfer between pc. I prefer to stay away from hd
enclosures.
thanks

If it's for business use, try and convince your boss that the only pocket
sized 40G drive is made by Apple, and they call it an iPod.

Hi Frank,

You can check on www.usbman.org what kind of problems people have with USB2
mass storage devices. The ones that don't show up, obviously are the good
ones ;-).

Good luck!

I'm interested to know why you want to stay away from HDD enclosures? Bad
experiences (what sort)? Kinda interested to know...

well simply cause I prefer to have something factory made and which generaly
will give better reliability and also it can sometimes be as expensive
buying all the parts then to buy everything factory made. I've read a few
enclosures having some problems and as there is so many different types, it
is hard to tell what exactly might be good. As for factory made HD, I find
it easier for someone to tell me well such and such models are good. I might
be totally off but that the way I see it.
