I would like it if some one could help me out with this only issue i am having with vista so far.

I have an external usb hard drive enclosure (vantec Nexstar 3 3.5 usb) it has a SATA western digital 320 gig 16mb cache drive in it.

Windows picks it up but i can't find a driver that will make it work. I have tried downloading the manufacture driver but that didn't work

PLEASE ANYONE WITH AN IDEA HELP ME !!!

The OP did not say he was trying to use it as a boot device. I think he is
saying that he cannot access data on the drive.

I have the exact same problem at this time. When I connect the USB drive it
is detected and shows the drive in device manager, but then after a minute or
so it just disapears and I have to disconnect it and reconnect it. Starts the
cycle over and over.

My USB WM 5 device does the same thing.

Please be sure to report the bug via the feedback link. This issue has been
present on earlier builds on some machines.

Vista does not support external USB based drives.

Do you mean it doesn't support external USB based drives, yet? Do you
mean only as bootable devices, does this include USB pen drives? Will
it support any or all of these in the future? What about cameras or mp3
players? Those are often seen as USB hdds by the computer too.

I heard vista was going to use USB pen drives as a way to add additional
temp ram to your machine. Is that true?

ReadyBoost CAN use USB flash drives to host the VirtualMemory swap
file(ReadyBoost and Superfetch) if the drive is fast enough....

Vista WILL support external USB drives for data...but there seems to be some
issues with that yet...

I had no problem using my W.D. 250 GB USB drive to do an image backup with
Vista.
All my (various manufacturer) thumb drives work, as well.

I have had no better than 50,50 results, unfortunately. The usb bugs have
been commented on since the beginning of Beta 1.

Results are about the same here. I'm using an external enclosure and Vista
reads the drive fine at first but after a few minutes it stops and crashes
explorer.

I have an external USB IOGear ION 80 gig drive which is working fine on
Vista x64.
