I used PartitionMagic 8.0 to reduce my C: drive and create a new partition,
which it designated G: drive. I used Norton Ghost 9.0 to create a backup
image of my C: drive, which it placed on the new G: drive. I would like to
store either a copy or a new version of the backup image off my computer.
What would be the best external device to accomplish my purpose?

So if your HD fails..you have nothing.Seeing as you have your Work and
backup on the same drive.
It is to your advantage to Ghost your present HD operating partition to
another seperate external HD.
By Cloning your present HD and a failure occurs you just install the cloned
HD and you are up and running again.
You can do this by either just buying another HD and hooking it up as the
Slave and removing it after the "cloning" or by purchasing a Removable HD
Caddy that fits in the slot where the CD/DVD fits...space permitting.Either
way another HD is needed.

Well, using Norton Ghost 9.0 you could, en route to creating the back up,
choose to have it done in small chunks to facilitate burning your backup
image files to cd-r or dvd-r.

I don't ever use the "burn it straight to dvd-r" cause it always fails on
the last disc !

That's easy: An external hard disk, through either a USB or a 1394
connection. Don't bother with DVDs, unless you like waiting around to
swap disks. And an external hard disk is much faster than your DVD
drive. You can easily find a 160GB model for less than $100.

Thinking about a Zip or Jazz drive? Or a tape drive? Think of 35mm film
cameras.

Floppies? Don't even mention it.

New one on me. PM does imaging? Clone, yes.

There is no best in all situations. In any event, you have to be sure PM
can properly access the media to clone it back to your onboard hard drive.
