External SATA Not Recognized

I have a SATA external HD that I've been using on another computer. I
decided to transfer it to my desktop computer that is running Win XP pro,
like the other computer. It went through all the normal installation
routine, and all the drivers for the MB are up to date, but XP Pro is not
recognizing it as an actual drive. I open up My Computer expecting to see it
there, but it isn't. I attempted to reassign drive letters (I'm running one
internal drive with 2 partitions), to no avail. The device manager shows it
as fine, with all updated drivers. The computer itself has all the updates,
and the same goes for all the MB updates. The MB was designed for SATA
drives, so no problems there. BTW, this drive is testing out just fine on 3
other Win XP Pro computers.... Any other ideas from anyone? (Besides
getting a Mac?) It's probably something dumb I've overlooked.....

Do you see the external hard disk when you run Disk Management
(diskmgmt.msc)? If so, is it assigned a drive letter?

External SATA drives are treated as standard internal SATA drives.
However, depending on the motherboard, you may need to:

1) Turn the SATA ports on.
2) Turn the SATA/PATA emulation feature on
3) Install the Windows XP SATA drivers
