I have a creative blaster v.92 external modem and had it
installed and running on my old computer with the same XP
I am running now. I am unable to get it working on my new
computer. The modem works with my laptop (windows 98
SE). XP detects the modem but when it tries to load the
(same as I used before) drivers it reboots. The error
message says mdmxsdk driver is corrupt (or something like
that). I downloaded new drivers from Creative, same
problem. I presently have somewhere in my system, 13
copies each of mdmsxdk.sys and mdmsxdk.dll, some dated
04/09/2002, the rest dated 5/22/2002.

What to do next? My old drivers worked before, never had
a problem.

Thanks for any assistance,

Marge

External modems don't require drivers (because one driver fits nearly every external modem and it's built in). The driver files are just a text file saying how it differs from an ideal modem (probably not much). The files you refer too are probably for extra functions (maybe sound drivers for the modem for answering machine functions). Choose to use a generic modem.

How do I do that? Device manager says the modem needs
drivers or needs them updated/reinstalled. If I
click "update drivers" it reboots, no matter what method I
choose (in three weeks, I have tried them all). What am I
missing here?

Good luck

And the answer is.....
This driver update is for the Modem Blaster v.92 External
(DE5621) for users running Windows XP.

Do NOT install the modem drivers if your Pentium(R) 4
computer (3Ghz and above) is running with Hyper-Threading
enabled.

***Hyper-Threading is a new Intel(R) technology that
enables a single CPU to operate as two virtual CPUs for
enhanced multitasking performance. Future driver releases
will address this compatibility issue.***

I emailed them about the implied future release, but I
guess this is why it won't work.

Thanks,

I sent the URL for the US site.. if you are not based in the US, then select
the country and then download the drivers..

The problem is that the system I am running is the one
they don't have drivers for. ( "Do NOT install the modem
drivers if your Pentium(R) 4 computer (3Ghz and above) is
running with Hyper-Threading enabled.") I emailed them
and they said they have no future release date for new
drivers, check back periodically, etc.

I think I have a non-functional modem unless I can find
drivers somewhere else. No sduch thing as a "simple"
upgrade!

Hello,If you are not in need of hyper-threading it can be disabled in the BIOS.
Try to install modem drivers after you disable hyper-threading.
Take Care.
