external HDD - firewire

hello,
I'm trying to use an external HDD with my laptop on a
FIREWIRE port. The HOST controller (PCMCIA card) is
detected by windows but not the HDD itself. I could try the
HDD on another laptop (using win2000 as well) and it all
worked fine.
The HDD is detected on my laptop when I use the USB1 port.
Any idea how to fix the problem?

I'm having a similar problem. Did you ever find a solution?
