On my Desktop, I currently have connected, a maxtor external hard drive that
I use as a daily backup. I am now working with a family roots program and
have already set up an extensive family file history.

I now have purchased a laptop and would like to transfer the roots file to
the laptop utilizing the maxtor H/D. l do not know how to go about doing this
if it can be done at all. I thought I could disconnect the harddrive from my
desktop and connect it to my laptop via USB and just download the program. It
appears however that I may transfer the entire hard drive files and
programs, all 30 GBs, to my new laptop.

Before I do something stupid I thought I would ask here on the board.
Appreciate any guidance on this. Thanks Much.

Hi Ray,

The Family Root application will have to be installed on the new laptop
using the installation disk. At that point the file(s) that contain the
data can be moved to it. Check help in Family Roots for instructions on
how to move it's data to another system.

Thank you Bert.. I wiil install the roots rpogram on my laptop and go from
there. Thanks.
