external harddrive does not appear!

i purchased a new western digital usb 2.0 external harddrive (model
#WD800B008-RNN), after hookup xp installed the driver.
when i look in 'my computer' it does not appear, but when i look in the
device manager or drive management it shows up as 'WDC USB2 drive O:.
what can i do to make this drive appear in 'my computer' so i can access
it?

Right click on My Computer and select Manage. Then go to Storage, Disk
Management. Is this what you mean by Drive Management? If so, and you see
the drive there, use Disk Management to partition and format the drive so
Windows will recognize it.
